Located at the corner of R.H. Johnson and Meeker boulevards, the Library is the most recognized building in Sun City West with its clock tower and chimes.  The Library was established in 1979 and houses 40,000+ items including regular and large print books, books on CD, periodicals, investment resources, and DVDs, as well as Reference and Homebound-Books by Mail services which are all available to Sun City West owner-members. Your Recreation Card is your Library Card.

Library Hours are Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Check-out Requirements:
Members must present their own SCW Recreation Card to check-out or renew library materials.

Loan Periods:
Books and other materials: 2 weeks
Music CDs and DVDs: 1 week - no renewals

Overdue/Fines:
Books and other materials: 10 cents per day
DVDs: $1.00/day

Drive-up Book/Media Drop Boxes available 24 hours adjacent to Library.

The Library is supported by a Chartered Club known as the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library. The Friends' fundraising programs include Thursday Night Movies at the Stardust Theatre, an annual endowment fund drive, and book sales held throughout the year. Monies raised by the Friends are used to purchase new books, equipment, and other materials for the Library.

Throughout the year new books are being purchased and subscriptions maintained to more than 120 magazines, newspapers and financial reports. Where does the money for all this come from? While your dues pay for the operation of the library (building, utilities, supplies, etc), the books, DVDs, Books on CD and other materials available in the library are paid for by the Friends of the Library.

Although the Friends do raise money in a number of ways, such as book sales and Thursday night movies, the majority of the money for these materials comes from the Endowment Fund. This fund is made up of contributions from residents of Sun City West who respond to our annual fund drive by mailing or dropping off a check or cash donation.

Many companies will match the gifts of their former employees, because the Friend of the Library is a 501(c) 3 organization, and such gifts are tax-deductible.

The Children's Department offers puzzles, DVD's, books, magazines and Books on CD.
